Today I am so happy to welcome author Nike Chillemi. Thanks for visiting and welcome!
To my mind, the holidays are the perfect time to give a murder mystery as a gift. Veterans Day just passed and my debut novel BURNING HEARTS (historical romantic suspense with lots of action) was very topical for that day.
It’s hero, Lorne Kincade fought under General Patton in France in World War II. By all appearances, he was a motorcycle courier riding a military Harley Davidson. In reality, Lt. Lorne Kincade carried out covert mission that dove tailed with Operation Marseilles. Many times while on assignment, Lorne and his best buddy Grady Carter hid in the catacombs beneath Marseilles wondering if their cover had been blown. Grady died in an explosion set by Nazi troops and their French Underground contact was found dead, tortured.
Lorne returned to the states disillusioned by the horrors he witnessed, but when he met Erica Brogna, a gal with hair the color of mink, things started looking up for him. Of course, they first had to catch an arsonist and murderer.
With Thanksgiving around the corner, I can’t help but think of the warmth of the Brogna family in BURNING HEARTS. Their house always has the aroma of something good coming from the kitchen. And Mrs. B is known throughout the entire village of Sanctuary Point for her strudel.
If you are not the type to rush out the day after Thanksgiving for “black Friday shopping,” as I’m not…I have a few recommendations for making that day “Forensics Friday.” Here are a few suspense novels you might consider curling up with. Of course, I hope you consider BURNING HEARTS first.

Welcome, Nike! I love your idea about Black Friday ‘shopping’ — sounds great! Also, I read “Burning Hearts” and loved it. Good luck with your writing.
Hugs,
Regina
Nike-looks like a great read. This new book Burning Hearts looks great. Please keep up the good work.Regards Ben Smith
Hi Ben and thanks for stopping in today. Your hunches are right – “Burning Hearts” IS great!
Thanks so much Ben. Hope you win.
Well, actually, I hope everyone wins. Unfortunately there can be only one winner.
“Burning Hearts” sounds like an awesome read, Nike. I wish you mega sales and fabulous reviews!
Hi Anne, you’re so encouraging and kind, thanks for your warm good wished for Nike. I ‘second’ them!
Hi Anne, thx for stopping by. Wishing you and yours a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Burning Hearts sounds like a great book. Good job, Nike!!!!
Hi Tami and thanks for commenting, you are so right – Nike did do a great job! Great to have you today
Tami, Thx for the encouraging comment. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.
I have a question, Nike – you gave us so many good suggestions today for finding a good read, could you tell us a few more books you’d recommend and why you chose them? Thanks! Regina
Regina, I answered this below. Thx for asking.
Without the use of forensics, most crimes would not be solved. I have to agree, with the crowded rush on Black Friday, curled up with a Forensics Friday book would solve the dilemma. I’m currently reading a book on covert missions, so I look forward to winning your book. Thanks for the opportunity! Happy Thanksgiving!
Thanks, Linda, excellent point. Happy Thanksgiving to you and everyone.
Nike, thanks so much for visiting today. It was great to have you, please come back again soon!
Thx for leaving a comment. Hope you’re enjoying the book you’re reading. Best wishes on winning BURNING HEARTS.
After sitting at the table with family and friends on Thanksgiving, I’m not the type to rush out early on Friday to the stores. Grrrr. A good book is my alternative.
What’s not to love about forensics? Think Mark Harmon *sigh* Sign us up for the contest, okay? Nice blog, girls.
Sophie, Thx for stopping by. Yup, Mark Harmon. What about Matthew McConaughey in The Lincoln Lawyer. (sigh). Oh, well…
Great blog post, and I love Burning Hearts. I also love the way you’ve introduced us to books we haven’t read yet. Writers are readers, too, and it gives us a chance to check out books we didn’t know about. Great idea, Nike. Thanks so much for sharing. If you haven’t read Burning Hearts, you won’t be disappointed, especially if you like a strong hero who rides in on a Harley. Check it out. Blessings, BJ Robinson
Barbara, I loved the visual image of Lorne Kincade riding in on his Harley. I actually wrote and rewrote that scene several times and actually got help from Christian motorcycle riders in writing it.
Great post, Nike! And I love your idea about “Forensics Friday!” Just one more piece of evidence that you commit crimes of creativity on a daily basis! LOL!
I LOVE committing crimes of creativity. They’re so much fun.
Regina, The books I recommended all had a suspense element to them. That’s what I love to read.
For the reader who likes gritty thrillers, as I do, I’d recommend The PAWN, THE ROOK, THE KNIGHT, all in the Patrick Bowers series by Steven James.
If you’d like to read a jailhouse thriller, there’s K Dawn Byrd’s KILLING TIME.
If you want the epitomy of a villian, there’s Robert Liparulo’s COMES A HORSEMAN.
Great post, Nike. Thanks for the mention of CELTIC KNOT. I hope everyone buys BURNING HEARTS (don’t have to go out for it either – that’s the beauty of an eBook!). After reading that, they’ll all be chomping at the bit for your next novel, GOODBYE NOEL.
I’m going to stay home Friday and read some of my favorite authors, too. And perhaps spend some quality time with a few of my characters, helping them solve mysteries and fight crime!
Blessings,
Tammy
Tammy, I’m going to stay home too and curl up with a good book. Maybe heat up some apple cider and throw a cinnamon stick into it. The smell of the cinnamon is fabulous and goes well with reading. Then, for my tastes, I have to add to that a novel that starts with a cold, dead body.
Nike-do you ever watch the TV weekly series called Body of Proof ????? It is an excellent TV series and maybe you could get ideas for your books.Regards Ben Smith.
Ben, Thx for the idea. I haven’t been watching it. What channel is it on and what time?
My husband and I used to watch The Killing. It was wonderful, but the season ended w/o viewers finding out who the murder was. They are working on season two, but I’m losing interest. I really felt let down that we didn’t know by the end of season one who the killer was.
Now we’re watching Homeland, which is well written w/lots of surprises. All Homeland Security, FBI stuff.
Most interesting!! Mysterious books!! Love to read! One of my current favorite mystery authors is M.C. Beaton..you must not miss her books. She has two mystery series, one features Hamish MacBeth, the other series stars the hilarious Agatha Raisin. So intelligent, funny, different…You will love them!
I am happy to announce the winner of an ARC copy of BURNING HEARTS has been selected by my impartial panel (my teenage daughter and my husband).
And the winner is…drum roll…
Ben Smith.
A copy of BURNING HEARTS has been sent to you via email. Congrats!!!
NIKE-many thanks for the prize.Wonderful!!!
